Empowering Newborn Health through Digital Tools

A collaborative effort by Global Health Innovations (GHI) and Dimagi to enhance Kangaroo Mother Care using CommCare Connect.

Introduction

The Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) initiative, led by Global Health Innovations (GHI) in partnership with Dimagi and County Health Departments, aims to improve survival and health outcomes for preterm and low-birth-weight babies through digitally supported care pathways. This program leverages CommCare Connect, a digital platform designed to support maternal and newborn care at health facilities and in communities.

Tracking and Follow-up

Strengthen facility-based KMC follow-up and tracking.

Digital Case Management

Enable digital case management for community health workers.

Care Coordination

Enhance care coordination from birth through post-discharge.

Capacity Building

Build capacity using digital learning and monitoring tools.
Empowering health workers and caregivers with digital tools to promote Kangaroo Mother Care practices, foster caregiver engagement, and ensure continuity of care from facility to home.

What’s New?

In this collaboration, GHI and Dimagi are piloting an enhanced version of CommCare Connect tailored specifically for KMC.

The digital tools support:

  • Client registration and tracking.
  • Home visit scheduling and decision support.
  • Educational content for mothers and caregivers.
  • Data-driven program monitoring.
